CITY OF ANAHEIM CELEBRATES THE 4TH OF JULY

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 30, 2009) – As we look forward to celebrating our nation’s Independence Day, the City of Anaheim would like to invite residents and visitors to the 21st annual Stars and Stripes festivities at Peralta Park (115 N. Pinney Drive in east Anaheim), and Canyon High School (220 S. Imperial Hwy. in east Anaheim) hosted by the City of Anaheim, Canyon Hills Community Council and the Anaheim Hills Rotary Club. All events take place on July 4, and Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle and the Anaheim City Council members plan to participate. The schedule of activities at Peralta Park and Canyon High School are listed below:

“Firecracker” 5 /10K Run – 2K Walk and Product/Health Fair

5:30 – 10:00 a.m. at Canyon High School

Pancake Breakfast

8:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Canyon High School Cafeteria

Bring the family and friends to enjoy pancakes, sausage, orange juice and fresh coffee. Cost is $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12. Contact: Tony Siragusa 714-281-8930.

Yankee Doodle Dog Show

10:00 a.m. at Canyon High School

Six fabulous categories - Best Dressed Dog, Cutest Dog (35lb. & under), Best Trick, Owner Doggie Look-a-like, Bigger Cutest Dog (36lb. & over) and Yankee Doodle Dog. $10.00 entry fee per dog for the first category entered and $5.00 for each additional category. Fireworks Show

9:00 p.m. at Peralta Park

Pyro-Spectacular will present the spectacular fireworks display. Contact: Paul Beckman 714-926-0512.

In addition to the events listed above, fireworks will be on display at Disneyland, and following the evening’s Angel game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

CITY OF ANAHEIM ANNOUNCES SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 19, 2009) The City of Anaheim, together with the Anaheim Community Foundation, is pleased to announce the Summer Concert Series at three Anaheim parks this summer. Many of the concerts are free, and family, friends and neighbors are encouraged to attend and enjoy the music in some of Anaheim’s beautiful parks.

Toyon Park is located at 945 S. Weir Canyon Rd. in east Anaheim. Summer Concerts in the Canyon will run from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on the dates listed below. The performances are free to the public, and lawn chairs or blankets for the open seating are recommended.

  • Thursday July 16 - “Swing Cats” features popular swing music favorites
  • Thursday, July 23 – Top 40 music hits the stage with “Electric Mayhem”
  • Thursday, July 30 - “Rockit Scientist” will perform music of the 50’s and 60’s.
  • Thursday, August 6 – Dance to funk and disco with the music of “Soundbytes”

Maxwell Park is located at 2600 W. Orange Ave, in west Anaheim. Summer Concerts in the Park will run from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on the dates listed below. The performances are free to the public, and lawn chairs or blankets for the open seating are recommended.

  • Tuesday, July 14 - Classic Rock with the sound of “Bobby G & The Beat”
  • Tuesday, August 4 - Latin beats as “Frank Cano” spices up the night

Pearson Park is located at 400 N. Harbor Blvd. near downtown Anaheim. All concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise indicated, on the nights listed below. Tickets can be purchased online at www.anaheim.net, or at the Pearson Park Amphitheatre box office, which opens one hour prior to the start of each show.

CITY OF ANAHEIM TO PARTICIPATE IN GREEN FAIR

Senator Lou Correa to Promote Eco-Friendly & Healthy Living at Green Your Life Festival in Anaheim

(SANTA ANA, CA) – State Senator Lou Correa in collaboration with Cal State Fullerton Soccer, the City of Anaheim, the California Department of Conservation, and others is hosting a Green Your Life Festival & Titan Soccer Clinic on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 from 10am-1pm at Maxwell Park located at 2650 W. Broadway, in Anaheim.

The Green Your Life Festival will bring together over 30 organizations and green vendors to showcase the newest innovations in green technology and steps we can take to make our households more eco-friendly. In addition, the Cal State Fullerton Men’s Soccer Team will be coaching a free Titan Soccer Clinic to encourage youth ages 6-17 to be more physically active. The first 150 kids to pre-register for the Soccer Clinic will receive a free t-shirt and Adidas giveaway!

“Energy, conservation, recycling, and physical activity is important and easy to do in our everyday life,” said Senator Lou Correa. “I encourage families to join me in learning more about the simple ways we can live greener and healthier lives.”

Participating organizations will offer information on solar power systems, energy-saving lighting solutions, home energy audits, gasoline-free electric cars, healthy foods, weatherization programs, and dozens of other services designed to help residents save money and the environment at the same time. In addition, Haskett Library and YMCA Activate America will be coordinating activities for the entire family, with a Kid Zone area designed to teach youth about the importance of maintaining a physically active body and mind. The YMCA will also provide 2 lucky kids with the opportunity to camp at Catalina Island or the San Bernardino Mountains!

Participants will have the opportunity to win an energy star refrigerator, a high efficiency toilet, energy kits, swimming lessons, DVD players, and much more.
