WTF?! Was I Thinking?

At seven o' clock this morning I arrived at Big Lots to buy what was clearly a loss leader. Even though the doors opened at seven, I was too late.

Two moms had parked themselves outside since five-thirty.  I learned this from the mom who had just proudly purchased one of the two playsets in stock.

I don't plan to participate in tomorrow's Black Friday.

I'm using http://draft.blogger.com tonight and they have a new feature I hadn't seen before. Now you give your post a location.

Location is an interesting attribute. Not only can you use it to locate information, but it can be used to provide more context regarding a post.

I'm going to have a different perspective on something versus someone on the other side of the world.

Waze becomes even more Pacmanesque

Tonight I fired up Waze on my G1. I was delighted to see little cherries speckled across the map. Waze, the real-time traffic application for smartphones is becoming even more of a game.

I didn't have time to go chasing down the cherries. However, after driving past two SigAlerts on my thirty mile commute, I came across a hammer several times.

I learned that these items have been placed on the map as a fun way of helping to build even better maps. When you collect them, you earn bonus points.

Between November 25th and the 30th, Waze is giving out Amazon gift cards, ranging from $200 to $500, to the Wazers who rack up the most points from collecting road goodies.

Details can be found on their blog.

The Return of Blogging

It's funny. This blog has been feeling neglected. Just this evening I asked my coworkers what I should blog about. What I like about blogging is that it is informal, conversational, and a way to make thoughts and ideas tangible. TechCrunch reports:
In October, comScore estimates that Twitter had 58.3 million unique visitors worldwide, down from 58.4 million in September. Meanwhile, Wordpress.com gained 10 million unique visitors to end the month at 151.8 million—this is after going pretty much nowhere since March, 2009.
Twitter is a tool that is here to stay, but it's not a replacement for blogging. Twitter's great for sharing links, seeding ideas, and updating statuses. However, this blog is where I can develop my ideas and nurture my creative side. Let's see if I can't start doing this on a regular basis.

CITY OF ANAHEIM SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON THE ANAHEIM FIXED-GUIDEWAY TRANSIT CORRIDOR STUDY

The City seeks to bring a new, more reliable transportation choice to the heavily traveled east-west corridor between ARTIC, the Platinum Triangle and The Anaheim Resort™ area

ANAHEIM, Calif. (November 5, 2009) – The City of Anaheim is holding a public scoping meeting on Thursday, November 12th in cooperation with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to obtain input on the City's Fixed-Guideway Transit Corridor Study.

"The goal of this regional initiative is to provide a last-mile transit connection for residents, workers and visitors to the area's major employment and activity centers," said City of Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle. "As one of the most highly visited cities in the U.S., Anaheim needs a world-class transportation system employing modern technologies."

The Anaheim Fixed-Guideway project is a proposed high-capacity transportation system that will link Orange County's "backbone" Metrolink commuter rail system at the planned Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) to the City's major employment and activity centers.

"We're very excited about the prospect of providing a transportation solution that will vastly transform and improve mobility from ARTIC to homes, places of employment, and entertainment destinations in the Platinum Triangle and The Anaheim Resort area," said Natalie Meeks, City of Anaheim Public Works Director.

The City of Anaheim is hosting this meeting in cooperation with the OCTA and FTA to collect public input to satisfy requirements under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In August, public comments were collected in a separate meeting, pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) public outreach process.

This additional public meeting will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center, 250 E. Center Street. Stakeholders can participate at any time during the meeting; there will be an open house from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a brief presentation starting at 5:00 p.m.  For more information, please contact the project's hotline at (877) 865-6618 or send an e-mail to info@anaheimfixedguideway.com.
